The GBP optimization checklist

Do these in order. Each takes under an hour.

  • Set the correct primary category (test in incognito against top-3 competitors).
  • Add every secondary category that describes what you actually do.
  • Fill every service and product with a real description.
  • Upload 20+ real photos of trucks, team, and completed work.
  • Set service areas by city, not radius, for most trades.
  • Publish a GBP Post weekly (offers, updates, jobs).
  • Reply to every review within 24 hours.
  • Answer the top 10 Q&A questions yourself before customers do.

Suspensions — prevent and recover

The most common suspension triggers: shared address with another business, service-area business showing a physical address, keyword stuffing in the business name, or category mismatch. Do not add 'best' or city names to your business name — it is against policy and gets accounts suspended weekly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have more than one GBP for one location?

No. One physical location = one GBP. Multiple GBPs for the same address (or an address you don't own) gets suspended and often loses all reviews.

How often should I post to GBP?

Weekly. Consistency signals an active business. Posts do not directly rank your profile, but they lift click-through from the local pack.
