Roofing SEO: How to Rank #1 for "Roofer Near Me" in Your City
By Chris Heidlebaugh · April 22, 2026
When a homeowner Googles "roofer near me" after a storm, you have about 30 seconds to be one of the three companies they call. Map Pack rankings determine which roofers get the call and which sit waiting. Here's how to crack the top three — and stay there year-round.
Prefer the shortcut? Our roofing marketing services page lays out the four ways we help roofing companies stop guessing — audits, employee training, self-paced DIY marketing, and strategy sessions with Chris.
Why Local SEO Is the Highest-ROI Channel
Roughly 70% of clicks on a "roofer near me" search go to the three Map Pack businesses. Every other roofing company splits the leftover clicks. The good news: Google's local algorithm is more game-able than national SEO. Most roofing companies can crack the Map Pack within 90–120 days of consistent execution.
Pillar 1: Google Business Profile
- Primary category: "Roofing Contractor"
- Secondary categories: "Roofer," "Gutter Cleaning Service," "Siding Contractor" (if applicable), "Solar Energy Company" (if applicable).
- Services list: Add every service individually — roof repair, roof replacement, storm damage repair, gutter installation, roof inspection, commercial roofing, metal roofing, flat roofing, skylights.
- Photos: Upload 3–5 fresh job photos every week. Drone shots, before/after, your crews on jobsites. Geo-tag where possible.
- Posts: Use Google Posts weekly — recent projects, financing offers, seasonal inspection campaigns.
- Q&A: Pre-populate with common questions ("Do you handle insurance claims?" "What financing do you offer?").
Pillar 2: Reviews — Volume + Velocity + Storm Surges
Google rewards review count, recency, and keyword relevance. A competitor with 412 reviews and 6 new ones per week will outrank you with 800 reviews from two years ago.
Build a systematic review request — every paying customer gets a text with a direct Google review link the same day the project completes. Aim for 8–10 new reviews per month minimum. After major storms, push hard for reviews from emergency repair customers — review velocity in the weeks after a storm can vault you up the rankings.
Pillar 3: Service Area Pages
Most roofing websites have one "Service Areas" page that lists 25 cities. Google ignores it. What works is dedicated, unique pages for each priority city.
Each city page should have: a unique 600+ word write-up about your work in that area, an embedded GBP map, 3–5 local job photos, real reviews from customers in that city, and an FAQ specific to local conditions (hail damage in Texas markets, snow load in northern markets, hurricane shingle ratings in coastal areas).
Pillar 4: Service Page SEO
Each major service deserves its own dedicated page:
- /roof-repair
- /roof-replacement
- /storm-damage-repair
- /insurance-claim-roofing
- /gutter-installation
- /metal-roofing
- /flat-roofing
- /commercial-roofing
- /roof-inspections
Each page needs a keyword-targeted H1, customer-focused intro, real photos, transparent process explanation, an FAQ with structured data, and a clear CTA.
Pillar 5: Citations and Local Links
Make sure your business name, address, and phone number are identical across Google, Yelp, BBB, Angi, Nextdoor, your local Chamber of Commerce, GAF Master Elite or Owens Corning Preferred (if applicable), and 30+ other directories. Manufacturer certifications matter for both SEO and customer trust.
For backlinks, prioritize: Chamber of Commerce, partnerships with realtors and home inspectors, sponsoring community events, and getting featured on local home services blogs. Realtor partnerships especially matter — many roof replacements happen at point of sale.
Pillar 6: Storm Response Content
When a storm hits, search volume for "hail damage roof," "wind damage repair," and "[city] storm damage" surges within hours. The roofing companies that pre-built location-specific storm response content rank for these searches when it matters most.
Build a "Storm Response" hub on your site with:
- What to do after a hail storm.
- How to file an insurance claim for roof damage.
- Signs of hidden hail damage.
- How to spot a storm-chasing scam.
- City-specific storm history pages.
Pillar 7: Cost and Decision-Stage Content
Roof replacement customers research for weeks before requesting quotes. Capture them at the top of the funnel:
- "How much does a new roof cost in [City]?"
- "Asphalt vs. metal roofing: which is right for my home?"
- "How long does a roof replacement take?"
- "What questions should I ask a roofing contractor?"
- Material comparison guides with photos.
The 90-Day Sprint
- Days 1–30: Fully optimize GBP, fix all NAP citations, install a review request system.
- Days 31–60: Build out 6 service pages and 5 priority city pages.
- Days 61–90: Start weekly GBP posts, weekly photo uploads, build a storm response hub, publish 4 cost/decision-stage blog posts.
